Meet the founder

David Holquin

Hi, I’m David Holquin, a drummer, music producer, and band coach with over 20 years of professional experience and 15+ years of teaching. I’ve spent most of my life behind the kit, in the studio, and on stage — helping students discover the same excitement and confidence that music has brought me.

My journey started with a love for high-energy rock and metal — a spark ignited by my dad’s ‘80s hair metal records and my neighbor’s introduction to heavy melodic European rock. Before long, I was drumming in local bands, performing live, and learning everything I could about sound, songwriting, and production. That curiosity grew into a lifelong passion for helping others create music, not just play it.

Today, I teach drums, guitar, ukulele, bass, and music production/recording, offering lessons that are customized for each student’s goals — whether that’s learning their first song, producing original music, or preparing to perform live. My approach combines structure with creativity, building not only musicianship but confidence, discipline, and expression.

When I’m not teaching at the academy, I perform/serve regularly with local cover and original bands, and at Forest Hill Church, staying active in the Charlotte music community. Whether it’s a one-on-one lesson, a full band rehearsal, or a deep dive into recording and mixing, I love watching my students grow into artists who can stand tall behind their instruments.

Let’s make something unforgettable — one note, one groove, one song at a time.
